Has Hip Hop Finally Accepted Future? | The Buzz

At times artists, especially new artists, manage to put out songs that eventually grow bigger than themselves. In 2011, that song was "Racks." Played non-stop with the insanely infectious hook , "Racks" took off and became one of the biggest hip hop records to come out of the south in 2011. Unfortunately, from that altitude the career of YC point would come down crashing and burning (I mean has anyone heard from him since?). Luckily for Future, the hook man on that record, he would come out relatively unscathed and utilize the same formula that he used on that record, to his own. The result would be the consecutive hits of "Tony Montana", "Magic", "Same Damn Time," and his latest "Turn On The Lights", each track growing bigger than the last from his debut album Pluto. Out the gate, many never saw Future as a contender to have some sort of prominence in the game (blame Ron Browz) - but since his debut last year, he has managed to stay afloat. It's been one year since, "Tony Montana" and now the question is, has hip hop accepted Future as an actual artist? or is he merely another flash in the pan star due to fizzle out? (more...)

Crave To Collab: Ludacris and Big Sean | The BUZZ

As more than just a blogger, but an overall major fan of music in general (I don't try to over analyze stuff too often unless there's something behind it or if have to write about it), I'm always thinking of collaborations in my head. Looking at tracks, remixes, previous collaborations, flows, rhymes, melodies, production - and wondering, what two artists would work well together? The result came in one of my earlier posts, pitting Lana Del Rey and Kid Cudi together. But my next suggestion isn't genre breaking, or isn't even one that's too farfetched. My next plea for artists that I think should collaborate, comes in the form of Ludacris and Big Sean. (more...)

Independence Day Liberates Frank Ocean | The BUZZ

What I can appreciate the most is that he did it on his call, and that he did it on his terms. So many stars we've seen crash and burn at the hands of the media's scandal, especially after one which insinuates them as homosexuals. But Frank Ocean made a bold stance just a few minutes after 12 on July 4th, and let the world know that his first love was indeed another man. (more...)

How Awesome Would A Lana Del Rey / Kid Cudi Collaboration Be? | The BUZZ

We're in 2012 now, where the genre breaking collaborations aren't exactly as jaw dropping as it may have been in the past. We've heard rap star Nelly sing with country star Tim McGraw, rapper B.o.B team up with rocker Hayley Williams of Paramore, neo-soul India Arie and popstar Pink joined together by the concept of hair - and this one may be up there in terms of quality, with those collaborations. Sure, it may not result in the same mass media exposure, or even attain the chart success that some of those records have attain, but this one could very well be a work of art. It took me almost five months of listening to Lana Del Rey's album Born To Die, for me to beg the question, "What if Kid Cudi hopped on this song 'Summertime Sadness?' what if his flows graced the track, "Lolita." How awesome would be a collaboration between Kid Cudi and Lana Del Rey? (more...)

Justin Timberlake’s ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’ Returns To Billboard Charts; Is It Time For A New Album? | The BUZZ

In the same week where Justin Bieber has taken over the world, promoting the release of his album Believe, where he's essentially at an age where he's finding his own definition of "sexy" - the man, the innovator, the bringer-back-of-the-sexiness, hath made his return onto the Billboard Charts. That's right, sparked by an amazing deal on Amazon, selling the album for $4.99, arguably one of the most prominent pop records of the 21st century FutureSex/LoveSounds returned to the charts for the first time since 2008 at #122. That means whether it's in a small town in Oklahoma, on a studio apartment overlooking Long Beach, on a mucky humid day in New Orleans - there's someone re-living the album in their own right. As it stands in 2012, it's been almost 6 years since Justin Timberlake has put out an album - so, is it about time for a follow-up? (more...)
