Kanye West’s New Album Is “Dark” And It’s “Done” | The Buzz

The climate in music is certainly heating up. The release of The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake certainly set things off right, and he has easily captured the title as 2013's biggest act thus far - but still on the horizon, we expect albums from Beyoncé, Eminem, Jay-Z, Drake, Britney Spears, Maxwell, and other major musical acts. However, arguably the most anticipated album out of the bunch we discussed at the top of the year is, as always, Kanye West. While Kanye West hasn't released a solo album since 2010's Grammy-award winning album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he has kept his name afloat with joint releases such as Watch The Throne w/ Jay-Z and the G.O.O.D Music Cruel Summer compilation disc. Pharrell Sits Down For 40 Minutes with Peter Rosenberg, And We Just Listen | The BUZZ

It's like sitting in-front of your grandfather - and we're not saying Pharrell's that old ever since he turned the notch over to 40, but just the feeling of sitting there an absorbing everything this genius is saying. He knows so much about the world, and it's not entirely one-dimensional like music artists tend to be, from music, fashion, lifestyle, ideas, concepts. It's like subscribing to the greatest blog on earth (besides ThisGoesIN of course). Pharrell sat down with Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97 for quite a lengthy interview, attired for pure comfort in his Hermes Blanket (that's right, it's not any old blanket), and it's 40-minutes where I literally transformed from a slumped state of comfort into fully-attentive soul, absorbing all of this man's information. For those who are familiar with Peter Rosenberg's work, he's not all jew jokes and Nicki Minaj insults - he's one of the more fantastic, knowledgeable interviewers who manages to produce an informal, yet entertaining interview. We've seen it from multiple of his interviews with wrestling superstars as he - like myself, are wrestling fans to the core. With K. Foxx, Ebro, Cipha Sounds and the other station personalities stripped away, he's free to do his own thing, which was to produce a compelling interview with one of the most legendary producers of this era. Speaking for 42 minutes, he touches on old music, new music, BBC fashion, women, love - but more specifically, his growing love for the music emerging in this era ,as opposed to the previous 6-7 years. Do yourself a favor and find yourself an open hour of space, 20 minutes to prepare and the next 40 minutes to watch the interview - because it's a treat. (more...)

Peak Drake Hours – Yes, It Really Exists | The BUZZ

It's about 1:15AM in the morning, for some reason you're still up (even though you probably have class tomorrow) and you're in that annoying period of the night where there's nothing good on TV and you're just going through the online surfing motions, checking your favorite blogs (HELLO!) and possibly doing a little online window shopping. Almost immediately after checking your Twitter feed, you see that the newest Drake track has struck the internet in a major way, entitled "Girls Love Beyoncé." You log onto ThisGoesIN (waddup!) and press play, and an immediate wave of feelings flow through you, possibly of somber or regret, no worries - it's okay. There's a reason why this happening. We have made a discovery, absolutely backed by no analytical evidence but the tweets on our timeline, that certain Drake records are more effective during a certain period at night. This time period we've coined as, Peak Drake Hours. (more...)

Joey Bada$$ – Hip Hop’s Next Landmark Lyricist | The Buzz

When we capped off the 90's, the biggest rappers on the scene were MCs that managed to provide those massive radio hits, but hold their own lyrically on the microphone. Throughout the decade, we were introduced to acts like Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Outkast, Wu-Tang Clan, Common, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre , Missy Elliott, - MCs who will not only hold the title of just being "popular", but "great" at the same time. It's 2013 now, and for some reason - the scale of popularity and greatness seems horribly lopsided. This generation's top rappers have dwindled their rhymes down to the lowest common denominator in seeing the maximum benefits of crossover, commercial success. The robotic falsettos of Future, the false drug-dealing persona of Rick Ross, and the nonsensical lyrics of Lil Wayne - who on his 10th studio album, is coming through with lyrics like "These niggas think they hard, these niggas just nipples" - have all emerged 10 years removed from what was called the golden-age of rap music. Unfortunately, they've become the "standard" for what radio decides to play. However, there's certainly new wave of MCs emerging that could possibly lead us who could very well restore that balance. A new crop whose different persona, out-of-the-box ideas, and lyrical content bring a fresh perspective, and exciting air to the game that's much needed. And among that crop is Brooklyn resident, Joey Bada$$. (more...)
