2013 BET Awards Nominations, Drake Earns 12 Noms | News
It's almost that time for the most hilarious night on Twitter, that's right - the BET Awards, and they've managed to stack up the nominations this year and even added a new twist to old categories. For the first time ever, the award show will acknowledge the pop genre with the addition to the R&B Awards - labeling them as Best Female/R&B Pop Artist and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. Drake leads the pack with a staggering 12 nominations at this year's show, landing 5 out of the 10 nominations in the Video of the Year Category for "No Lie" with 2 Chainz, "F*cking Problems" w/ A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, "Poetic Justice" w/ Kendrick Lamar, and for his own videos "HYFR" and "Started From The Bottom." Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, who are nominated multiple times in that category as well, earned 8 nominations, A$AP Rocky has 5, and Justin Timberlake, Miguel, and BET Award favorite - Kanye West, pick up three. Announced performers thus far are Chris Brown and R. Kelly, while Chris Tucker will play the host for the award show airing on June 30th live from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live. Waka Flocka Wants To Tap Into House and EDM Genres In The Future | News
It's no secret Waka Flocka has always had somewhat of a disconnect with the rap music industry, at one time wanting to quit entirely, as well as engaging in several beefs - including his most recent with his former mentor, Gucci Mane. So it's not surprising that he'd want to "spread his talents" much further than the genre, and tap into uncharted territory for the Atlanta native. When speaking on his music he says, "I do hip hop, but I'm not a hip hop fan. I couldn't even tell you where hip hop originated to be honest." In terms of what he wants to accomplish this time around - Waka Flocka says, "I want to tap into house, electric, EDM, everything. I don't want to be stuck in a refrigerator."
