Forget the fact that she has the biggest sales week of the year, by a rather far margin at that – Taylor Swift has successfully secured herself the biggest sales week in the past decade. The country star released her fourth studio album ‘Red’, and she demolishes the competition by selling a whopping 1.21 million copies in her first week. Gah damn. ‘Red’ becomes latest album to sell over a million records, the last being Lady Gaga’s, whose Born This Way trekked over the million mark last May. However, she stops that by just a bit over 100k copies to attain the second largest frame by an artist – just behind Britney Spears, and the biggest sales week since Eminem’s The Eminem Show back in 2002. We break down Red by the numbers below.
1,319,000 – Britney Spears still holds onto the title for biggest sales frame for a female artist with her sophomore album, “Oops! . . . I Did It Again” sold this much back in 2000.
1,208,000 – Taylor Swift’s album RED tops the charts with the highest sales week we’ve seen in 10 years.
967, 695 – The amount of copies that separate the #1 and #2 spot on the Billboard Albums Chart this week, the second spot belonging to Kendrick Lamar’s incredible debut good kid, m.A.A.d city which sells just over 240,000 this week.
623,000 – Taylor Swift breaks Ke$ha’s record for biggest digital copies sales week with her first single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
465,000 – The amount of copies of the album iTunes sold, a record breaking week for iTunes.
8,000 – The amount of albums Papa Johns sold of the album with their special featuring Taylor Swift’s album RED and a large one-topping pizza for $22.
7 – Appearances Taylor Swift made during your coffee & midnight snack, appearing on Good Morning America twice, The Late Show with David Letterman, The View, Ellen, Katie, and 20/20.
5 – Joe, Jake, John, Taylor, and Conor. They all have to live with hearing a break up song about them on the radio ALL. DAY. LONG.
3 – RED is Taylor Swift’s 3rd studio album to chart the Billboard 200 albums chart, following Fearless and Speak Now. This makes her the only female country artist to have 3 #1 albums.
2 – Along with 2010′s Speak Now, Taylor Swift is the only woman in history, since Soundscan started tracking sales, to have two albums sell over 1 million copies – back to back at that.
1 – Need we say any more? Taylor Swift is the #1 artist in all of America right now.
