Taking the stage on the first day of the Made In America Festival, soul music definitely showed it’s face with two of the best live performers in Janelle Monae and D’Angelo. Janelle Monae came through with her full, LARGE band, and as she always does – tore it down from top to bottom, never missing a beat and closed her set performing her new record, “Electric Lady”. D’Angelo, who has continued to make appearances as the year passes by, reminds us of the black hippy music we missed over the course of the past 12 years since his last album.
