It’s the video the world has been waiting to see, featuring two of R&B biggest female acts to date – and while it was filmed and hyped as a major single…it never saw the light of day. The days of counting down for the video turned into weeks, the weeks turned into months, and the months eventually turned into years with no real explanation of why the video wasn’t released. Until now. ESSENCE got to the bottom of this mystery, and she finally gives the answer.

ESSENCE.com: Finally, fans have been dying to know what ever happen to the “Put It In a Love Song” video you shot with Beyoncé?
KEYS: Ohhh man! Y’all aren’t going to leave me alone about that! Sometimes with creative things [it] all comes together and it’s (makes perfection kissing noise) and sometimes things almost come together and it’s better to just leave it. So we love that song. We had a ball shooting the video. It just so happens that the whole thing, for some reason or another, didn’t quite come together so we just decided to leave it. And that’s what happened.

As hyped as that video was, if it was even the slightest a bit off – it would’ve been labeled as a major flop. Alicia Keys didn’t like the final product, so it wasn’t released. Personally, I thought the two could pull out a much better collaboration than this record but maybe it was for the best – but the video looked like an EVENT. We’ll live with the live footage.
